The Board of Directors of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce and The Ambassador Club of the Chamber are proud to honor Chelsea Senior Center (CSC) with the 2016 Small Business Leadership Award. The Senior Center has demonstrated leadership qualities in all of categories for this award and strives to be the best at all they do for our members and Chelsea.
Our senior center is a 501(c) 3 organization that is a critical partner in the lives of hundreds of seniors in the Chelsea area. They provide a vast array of opportunities to engage anyone over the age of 50 in active, intellectually stimulating and entertaining activities that often are not found in peer senior organizations.
The Chelsea Senior Center has evolved into one our communities most respected and innovative organizations. Through the creative leadership of Executive Director Trinh Pifer and the Board of Directors, membership at the CSC has grown to over 800 members. With a staff of only 1 full time and 5 part time employees, CSC has carved out a presence in our community that reaches well beyond the physical walls of the facility. Under their umbrella, the Chelsea Congregate Meals and Meals on Wheels programs for Washtenaw County is now part of CSC. Last year, they provided over 30,000 meals through this new program.
Another highly regarded and pioneering program, Chelsea Community Senior Services program, supports the concept of aging in place. The wide variety of services provided to independent seniors are free. More than 800 requests for services were handled last year in this program that ranged from handyman assistance, transportation to shopping services.
One astounding metric that speaks to the energy level of this organization is the more than 300 volunteers who annually devote over 10,000 hours to programming and services at the center.
A seemingly endless list of activities from yoga, pickleball, wellness instruction, dancing, arts and crafts and technology training is offered monthly. Community projects such as Intergenerational Garden, Chelsea Spring Expo and the Festival of Tables are examples of how CSC collaborates and includes the entire community in their vision.
Core values of empathy, purpose, inclusiveness, real, visionary, and citizenship drive their mission to enhance the quality of life and well-being for area seniors and their families.
In Chelsea, we are so immensely grateful to have an organization that respects and builds on the many talents of all of our citizens. The Chelsea Senior Center is one of the true jewels in our community.
