Grants for Training, Developing and Retaining Staff
The Skilled Trades Training Fund offers grants to employers. They are used to help businesses cover the costs of training, developing and retaining current employees and individuals to be hired. Training is customized to meet employee skill requirements and is short-term in duration, preferably less than three months, with no training extending more than six months
Michigan’s Workforce Development Agency offers employment and hiring assistance to businesses throughout the state. Additionally, they provide free counseling, training and research to assist small business to launch, grow, transition and innovate. They can provide a variety of skills testing and employee recruitment services at its county branch offices. These services are typically available to companies at no cost and savings to employers can be up to $1,000 per employee hired.
Michigan Small Business Development Center Services
The Michigan Small Business Development Center supports small businesses with business plan writing, raising capital, market research, technology, fiscal management, and export strategy. They host many business workshops on topics ranging from marketing to HR and more. Many are free of charge.
Chelsea Area Talent Exchange - Matching Talent with Opportunity
The Chamber has partnered with Workfountain to provide a resources to match employees with job opportunities in the Chelsea area.
iChallengeU is a two-week educational opportunity for high school students to work with area teachers, corporate, civic, and community leaders to develop solutions to real problems posed by the corporate/civic/community partners. Teachers trained in project-based learning will work with the partners to identify driving questions or challenges. Student teams complete their own research and evaluation processes, and propose solutions to the real-life questions or challenges. Previous iChallengeU programs have generated significant cost savings for businesses by developing solutions for business challenges.
